Why have you air conditioning serviced & regassed?

  • Not cold enough?
  • Windows not demisting?
  • Unpleasant smells?
  • Runny nose, headache?
  • Strange noises when A/C is on?
Your car air con system can lose up to 20% of its refrigerant every year. A poorly performing car air conditioning system can cause a build up of fungus, bacteria and other microbes growing inside the evaporator, causing a smell, sometimes an allergic reaction.
It is recommended in your car manufacturers guide that you have your car air con system serviced every 18 months. This is not part of a normal car service. A poor A/C system can increase your fuel costs as the air conditioning pump needs to work harder

What is included in an air conditioning service?

  • Check system components such as hoses, belts, condenser, compressor, fans, electrics etc.
  • Check internal system controls, flaps, heating etc.
  • Recover any existing refrigerant from the system
  • Pressure test system
  • Vacuum A/C system to remove any moisture
  • Regas A/C system with refrigerant to vehicle specific levels
  • Inject UV dye & Top up oils as needed
  • System test checking temperature and controls.
  • Replace pollen/dust filter(s)
  • Disinfect A/C vent system

The most common question we’re asked…

My air conditioning is not working. What will it cost to find out what is wrong?
The most obvious problem with nearly all cars is lack of gas.
This can be due to a leak, or lack of servicing.
Once we have carried out the basic checks, we will regas your system, which includes UV dye at our normal rate. (see regas only price) If it is found you have a leak and we subsequently carry out the repairs to your vehicle, then the second regas is FREE! So it’s not money wasted.

How often should my aircon system be serviced?
Every 18 months to ensure it operates at maximum efficiency. If you let the system run low on refrigerant the compressor has to work harder and will wear out quicker.

When I switch on my aircon I get a bad odour inside the car, what causes it and how do I get rid of it?
The origin of the smell is caused by fungus, bacteria and other nasties growing inside the evaporator core. The moisture rich environment is very conducive to the growth of these organisms. We offer a full odour removal service using the latest tools and equipment.

How often should I use the aircon in my car?
All the time on hot or cold depending on the outside temperature. This will ensure that the rubber seals in your system don’t dry out and crack thereby causing leaks. Contrary to popular belief it does not greatly reduce your mpg.

I’ve seen air con gas ‘top-up’ kits for sale in motoring shops, how good are they and should I consider using one?
We don’t recommend them for a number of reasons.
  • They are potentially dangerous and you could injure yourself.
  • You A/C system requires a specific quantity of gas, with a top up you are unable to measure this.
  • Moisture and contaminants should be removed as part of an a/c service. Toping up does not do this. We remove all moisture and contaminants as part of our service schedule prior to re-gassing. This process alone takes 20-30 minutes.
Why does my car aircon system run low on refrigerant?
All the pipes and connections on your A/C system are naturally slightly porous so you lose anything up to 20% of the gas every year due to natural leakage.
